My First Photos From Haiti

I won't bee posting anymore the rest of the week. I just got back and am truly exhausted - an emotional exhaustion like I've never experienced. We have the Spring Open House this Friday and Saturday and there is so much to do and only 3 days to get it done.

There are hundreds of photos to sort through and we were blessed to have Karl join us, an experienced photographer from Texas Tech and I can't wait to share with you his photos as well. We never made it into the heavily destroyed areas due to security but rather focused our trip on the border towns and the orphanages, shelters and a hospital for the injured in the Dominican Republic. Words cannot describe the living conditions and I am ashamed that it took a natural disaster for me to understand it. I am truly thankful to Rotary for allowing me this opportunity to deliver wheelchairs with the International Wheelchair Foundation and the HHS Foundation. There will bee many more blogs about this truly Life Changing Experience but for now I leave with a few "happy" quick snap shots. Thank-you to my Downtown Waco Lake Brazos Rotary Club that stepped up to the plate providing the funding for many of these wheelchairs. Please comment ...

Sweet Baby Girl with a wheelchair just her size. I had a hard time letting her go ...

There are so many heroic stories to tell. You won't believe this little Angel's story!

Notice his little legs callused from crawling. Now he has the gift of mobility.

This little boy is blessed with a concrete floor and a tin roof. It is the rainy season now and thousands of families are displaced in tents or worse...

She couldn't stop touching my hair...

  2. Amy, you are blessed. Lesson learned though, we will never called ourselves poor again. I'm happy you got to live such a life changing experience. Good luck with the open house. Blessings, Marta.

  4. Amy,
You will be twice blessed for this. Once for actually taking the time and energy for others and second for giving us pause to remember what we have. We forget how much we do have in just the simplest of things. Thank you.

  7. Hard to see through these crocodile tears that keep forming...these photos are so beautiful and painful all at the same time. I can't imagine what it would be like to experience it all in person like you have done. Thank you for being such a great example of humanity at its best.

  9. Wow...small world. I have to tell you how I got here. I saw your picture in the Haiti by Hand blog, and followed the link to your blog, and then notice you're in Texas and it just happens you're in Waco too (I'm in Hewitt...small world).

What a blessing to get to go down and minister to the people of Haiti. We do have so much. Good reminder to be grateful.
